GOSHEN — Maxine M. Covert, 90, died Monday afternoon, April 22, at Courtyard Healthcare, where she had been a resident since November.
She was born Aug. 26, 1922, in South Bend to Altis and Frances (Matesick) Stoner.
She married Dora Covert on Oct. 12, 1940, in Middlebury. He died April 27, 2012.
Survivors include a son, Gary Covert of Goshen; former daughter-in-law Karen Covert; granddaughter Melanie Craigo of Goshen; grandson Timothy (Farrah) Covert of Elkhart; great-grandchildren Paige Craigo and Trevor Covert; and sisters Janet Culp and Lois (William) Scott, both of Goshen, and Laura Miller of New Carlisle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Phyllis Roose and June Gnivecki; and two brothers, Duane and DeVoe Stoner.
She was a 1940 graduate of Middlebury High School and a member of Little Pine Church of the Brethren and Jefferson Township Fire Department Auxiliary. She was an avid fan of IU basketball and Chicago Cubs baseball. Mrs. Covert worked as an assembler at Penn Electric and Johnson Control.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, where an 11 a.m. funeral service will be conducted Friday, April 26. Pastor Tom Clark will officiate. Burial will follow in West Goshen Cemetery.
