Both schools had teams qualify to go to state in area contests held April 16.
Penn had teams qualify for state in the science, social studies, math, English and interdisciplinary divisions, all in class 1. NorthWood, in class 2, had teams qualify in science, fine arts, social studies, math and interdisciplinary divisions.
Through Indiana Academic Super Bowl contests, teams of students compete with other schools by answering questions about a particular era, this year ancient Greece. Topics within the era include English, science, social studies, mathematics and interdisciplinary rounds. The senior division also includes a fine arts round.
Area contests for junior division teams, those in middle school, will be April 27.
Junior division state winners are chosen through the area contests.
Local junior high and middle schools with junior division teams are Bethany Christian Middle School, Concord, Fairfield, Elkhart Christian Academy, Goshen, Jimtown, North Side, Northridge, Pierre Moran, Schmucker, Grissom and West Side, according to the website for Indiana Association of School Principals, which organizes the program.
