Quick Bites: Adams Bistro returning to familiar spot

The couple left Concord Mall in February for a variety of reasons.
“We just really weren’t the right fit for there,” she said. Business had slowed. Customers were asking them to be somewhere other than the mall. Hours they needed to be open in the mall made it tough on their family.
They’ve reopened Unique Blend, 805 Bower St., Elkhart, and will soon reopen Adam’s Bistro where it was originally at 1600 W. Beardsley Ave., Elkhart. They could be open in a few weeks.
The Williamses have operated at least one restaurant in Elkhart since 2006 and tried a number of different things. The food is consistently pretty good and the service is friendly at any of their places.
• Sauk Trail on 17, 56039 Parkway Ave., Elkhart, will open for dinner on Monday nights starting April 8. The restaurant had been open Tuesday through Saturday. Dinner and drink specials will be offered on the opening night, starting at 4 p.m., because of the NCAA men’s tournament finale, according to manager Lana Davis. The restaurant has continued to make some tweaks. Bartender Cortney James is adding drinks that pair well with barbecue. Chef Chad Coryn is making desserts and sauces to top them. And a new kids menu is now available as well.
• Child And Parent Services in Elkhart, which works to prevent child abuse in Elkhart County, is having a number of give-back nights at local restaurants in coming weeks. If you eat at the restaurant that night, a portion of the sales will be given to the agency. The nights are:

• It’s spring break for Elkhart County students this week. That means that a lot of parents take off work. Some folks flee to warmer climates. And a few eateries close for vacation. Mini Delights Bake Shoppe will be closed until next week. If you’re planning to eat out, it doesn’t hurt to call ahead to make sure a place is open. And you may find some specials because of spring break. Kukui’s Hawaiian Shaved Ice will celebrate four years of business with a variety of specials at its location at 101 Harrison St., Shipshewana.
• Center for Healing and Hope will serve Fiesta Feast, a Puerto Rican meal, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Goshen, according to a press release. Food will come from Rolling Scones Cafe and Dutch Maid Bakery. The event is a fundraiser for the center, which provides medical care to people in need. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children age 12 and younger. You can get them by emailing email@example.com or call 574-534-4744, ext. 201.
• A reader is looking for where to find a good smelt dinner. The Italian Club had occasional dinners at one time, but haven’t for a while. So I ask you, where do you find a good smelt dinner in this area?
