MISHAWAKA — Thelbert William Columbia Jr., 78, of Mishawaka, passed away in his home Friday, March 22, 2013.
He was born near Lynchburg, Va., on Nov. 18, 1934, to Thelbert and Virginia (Lane) Columbia. They preceded him in death. On Sept. 18, 1954, in Mishawaka, he married Sharon Hooley.
She survives along with two sons, Michael Columbia of Fort Wayne and David Columbia of San Diego. A daughter, Carol Columbia, passed away in 1998. Also surviving are two sisters, Sue Firth and Darlene Begor; along with a brother, Gene Columbia.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
He retired from Uniroyal Corp. after 16 years of service, followed by 35 years as a self-employed fence contractor until his retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Mishawaka, where he was a longtime coach for the church baseball team. He loved all sports, especially baseball and golf.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Mishawaka, where friends will be received for one hour prior to the services on Wednesday and from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church.
