CASS COUNTY, Mich. — Michigan State Police continue to investigate a Thursday morning crash that killed an Elkhart, Ind., man.

The crash occurred at 7:10 a.m. on Thursday, March 21. Alan Steven, 27, of Elkhart, was driving on Redfield Road near Carter Street in Milton Township when he lost control of the vehicle and slid into an oncoming pickup truck driven by James Heiermann, 35, of Niles, according to a Michigan State Police news release.

Steven was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Heiermann suffered minor injuries and was released.

Michigan State Police troopers were assisted at the scene by the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Niles Township Fire Department, Edwardsburg Ambulance, Cass County Prosecutor’s office, Cass County Medical Examiner’s office and the Michigan State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.
