Elkhart school locked down briefly by sound of gunfire

ELKHART — An Elkhart school was on lockdown for a few minutes Wednesday afternoon, March 20, while police searched the area where the sound of a gunshot was reported.

St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School was on lockdown shortly after dispatch received a call from a resident saying they heard a sound of a gunshot. The call was placed around 3:04 p.m. according to dispatch.

Only one person reported hearing the gunshot, according to dispatch. Police cleared the area around 3:16 p.m. after not finding anything. The school lifted the lockdown soon after police gave the all-clear.
