ELKHART — Hively Avenue Mennonite Church is preparing for the fast-approaching Palm Sunday Peace Parade.

The third annual march will weave its way through downtown Elkhart to demonstrate “the importance of peace in our community,” according to Megan Whitacre, one of the walk’s organizers.

About 40 people took part in last year’s walk and Whitacre said they hope to increase participation this year. She said no registration is required and the march is open to anyone who wishes to join in.

This year’s Peace Parade will take place March 24 and will begin at Hively Avenue Mennonite Church. Participants will gather at the 800 Hively Avenue location at 2:15 p.m. before embarking on the approximately two-mile trek that will end with a program at the Civic Plaza.

From Hively Avenue Mennonite, marchers will head west before turning onto Prairie Street, where they will make a stop at Prairie Street Mennonite Church.

From there, the group will continue north on Prairie until reaching Main Street and then head towards the plaza.

A small program will be held on the plaza that will include singing, prayer and a speaker who will highlight the importance of peace in the community and how to bring about peace.
