GOSHEN — The 2013 concert series at the Elkhart County 4-H Fair will kick off with Creedence Clearwater Revisited, a band started by two of the three surviving members of Creedence Clearwater Revival.

The fair board made the announcement Wednesday evening, March 13. The band’s place in the concert slot for Saturday, July 20, leaves only one open space in the 2013 concert series.

Original CCR bass player Stu Cook and drummer Doug “Cosmo” Clifford decided to perform some of the band’s original music in 1995 for private parties. “We never really had any intention of playing for the public,” said Cook in the band’s official biography. “But a friend wanted to promote a couple of concerts. We got talked into it, but didn’t know how it would go over.” The popularity has Creedence Clearwater Revisited still performing 18 years later.

Their “Recollection” CD was certified platinum in 2008, and they’ve toured the Americas, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

“In the beginning Cosmo and I decided that if we could find the musicians that could capture the sound and recreate what the music was about, we’d do it,” said Cook.

That line-up consists of John Tristao, lead singer and rhythm guitarist and Kurt Griffey, lead guitarist.

Tristao was lead singer for the band People, while Griffey has recorded and toured with musicians including members of the Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Foreigner, the Moody Blues, Wings, , Santana and Journey.

Following Creedence Clearwater Revisited’s July 20 show are Jason Crabb on July 21, Florida Georgia Line on July 22 with Rachel Farley opening for them, and Vince Gill performing July 23.

The Wednesday night act for July 24 is the only one that hasn’t been announced by the fair.

All shows will feature grandstand seating that’s free with fair admission. Tickets for reserved seats on the track will go on sale at the fair office May 18. Track seat prices will be announced once they unveil the entire concert lineup.
