MIDDLEBURY — The two Northridge High School show choirs will perform a preview of their state championship competition performance Thursday evening, March 14, at the Northridge High School auditorium.

The free show begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The state championship competition will be held on Saturday at Plainfield High School.

“(The preview) is a way to let the community see what we’re up to and what we’ve been doing for the last three months,” Director Dan Baker said.

The state competition accepts the top nine all-girls choirs and top nine mixed choirs in the state.

Baker said this is the fifth year in a row the school’s mixed choir, Northern Lights, has been invited to the competition. The all-girls choir, Starlights, is the defending champion in its division.

More than 100 Northridge students are involved in the choirs, the 22-member orchestra and the 10-person tech crew, Baker said.

The choirs perform songs in a variety of musical styles, including pop, country, jazz and gospel.

“We even do dubstep,” Baker said. “I didn’t even know what dubstep was until last spring, so this has been an education even for the instructors.”
