Plan OKd for Millersburg sewage plant upgrades
The Elkhart County Council approved a funding plan for the utility project Saturday, March 9, that would allow the town to increase the plant’s capacity, improve efficiency and reduce energy usage. The project has a price tag estimated at $440,000, which will be funded 25 percent by the town and 75 percent by revenues from two tax increment financing districts.
The Elkhart County Redevelopment Commission has agreed to allow the town to use roughly $150,000 from the Millersburg I TIF District, which is set to expire this year, and funds generated by the Millersburg II TIF District for the expansion project.
Craig Buche, county legal counsel, pointed out that the county has had similar agreements with Elkhart, Goshen and Middlebury. The town of Millersburg will take the lead on the project’s design, engineering, bidding and contracting.
“I think this has been a good project to help Millersburg with needed upgrades,” County Councilman David Hess said. “They were in a desperate situation.”
