ELKHART — The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s office has issued a warrant for the arrest of a man suspected of kidnapping and raping a 10-year-old girl 25 years ago.

According to Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill, Robert E. Quinn, 50, is being charged with rape, a Class A felony, child molestation, a Class B felony, and criminal confinement, a Class B felony. He faces up to 90 years in prison if convicted on all three charges.

Quinn is currently being held at the New Castle Correctional Facility. He is serving time for a parole violation from a 2005 case in which he was convicted of child molestation.

The charges stemmed from an investigation after the victim, now an adult, approached police to ask for any updates on her case in 2011.

The DNA sample found soon after the assault matched Quinn’s in the latest investigation.

On March 5, 1988, around 11 p.m., a man broke into a residence on the west side of Elkhart, taking a 10-year-old girl that was asleep in the living room.

He placed her into a waiting car and drove her to a wooded area, where he raped her. After the rape, he returned the child to her residence and left.

The child was taken to the emergency room, where it was discovered she had suffered considerable injuries from the sexual assault.

During a press conference held Wednesday, March 6, at the prosecutor’s office, Hill said the earliest release date for Quinn is June, 2013. After serving his sentence he will be transferred to the Elkhart County Jail and await an initial hearing.
