ELKHART — Investigators have been unable to determine the cause of a Wednesday morning house fire.

Firefighters responded to 103 N. Sixth St. in Elkhart at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, to find smoke coming from the first floor of the two-story home.

Crews located the fire in a first-floor bathroom and had the fire under control by 11:10 a.m.

Tony Balzano investigated the blaze and said the cause of the fire could not be determined.

A report from the Elkhart Fire Department estimated that about 20 percent of the home was damaged.

The South Bend Tribune reported that four people were in the residence at the time the fire started and all escaped safely.
