ELKHART — A winter storm starting Tuesday, March 5, is expected to have snowfall reaching 3 to 6 inches during the day with temperatures hovering around the mid to low 30s.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for parts of northern and eastern Indiana. The heaviest snowfall is expected to hit in a line from Lake Michigan to east central Indiana. Some areas in the Midwest have already reported as much as 7 inches of snow since Monday.

Temperatures are predicted to drop to the high 20s with late-night flurries Tuesday, according to AccuWeather.com. The weather on Wednesday is expected to be mostly cloudy with a high temperature of 37 degrees and a low of 24 degrees.

Indiana Department of Transportation crews have already started treating roads with salt and ice melt in areas where the storm is expected to hit. Crews have also begun pre-treating bridges, ramps and roads with salt brine, an anti-icing mixture. INDOT advises drivers to give snow plows room to operate and avoid tailgating or trying to pass large trucks.
