Get ready for the meteorological guessing game to play out Tuesday as another snow storm barrels through northern and central Indiana.

The one thing various weather services agree upon is that the region faces the chance of heavy snow.

Exactly how much, though, has continued to evolve in recent days.

Early forecasts called for three to six inches of snow for Elkhart County, but forecasts issued today suggest more than that.

Accu-Weather.com revised their forecast from 4 to 6 inches Sunday to 6 to 10 on Monday.

The National Weather Service on Monday afternoon upgraded their prediction, saying Elkhart could see 5 to 8 inches by Wednesday morning.

The weather service announced a winter storm warning Monday afternoon that runs from 7 a.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The weather service underscored the unpredictability of the storm in an online multi-media news conference Monday morning by highlighting four weather models that could unfold Tuesday and noted that the forecast includes “lingering uncertainty.”

The brunt of the storm is expected to arrive Tuesday afternoon.

Highs Tuesday are expected to be near 31, according to the weather service. Winds could gust up to 20 mph.
