GOSHEN — With the possibility of the Electric Brew moving out of its Main Street location to the building soon to be vacated by Better World Books on East Lincoln Avenue, building owner Dave Pottinger thought there might be more suitors for the space.

That hasn’t been the case so far, Pottinger said, as he’s been contacted by only one person interested in the Brew space should the business relocate.

Pottinger said the proposal he received was not going to work. He explained that the interested person wanted to “do something similar to the Brew,” which is not what Pottinger is looking for in a new tenant.

“Part of my job,” he explained, “is not just restoring the buildings, but making sure there’s not too close of competition with other (downtown) businesses.”

Still, he said he’s very open to many other possibilities — when he receives them, that is.

The Electric Brew’s move is not imminent, but owner Myron Bontrager said he’s “95 percent sure” his business will end up relocating to the building that houses Better World Books. Inspections and modifications will need to take place between now and when the Brew would like to move later this summer.

Though the Brew’s current space is set up for a restaurant-like establishment, Pottinger said just about anything could use the Main Street location. “It doesn’t have to be food service,” he said.

Henry Herschberger, owner of Town and County Appliance Inc., is still debating what to do about business when he moves out of the building on Main Street. Town and Country Appliance must be out by May 14 to allow Better World Books to begin moving in.

Herschberger said he originally had planned to simply close up shop when it came time to move out. Some employees, however, have suggested he stay in business and look for another building to operate from.

Herschberger has not found a new location.
