Eight new officers joining Elkhart County Sheriffs Department
The oath of office will be at 1:15 p.m., delivered by Judge Terry Shewmaker.
The new patrol officers are Eric Schuman, a former corrections officer, Paul Gonzalez, who graduated from IU South Bend in 2010 with a degree in criminal justice, and Nicholas Snead, who is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from IUSB.
The three new patrol officers will attend Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield in April.
New reserve officers are Jerry Boocher, who is a quality control tech for a pattern/machine shop, and Andrew Stark, who lives in New Paris and enjoys marathons.
New corrections officers include Aaron Vandekeere, who is currently pursuing a degree in criminal justice at Ivy Tech, Gary Brooks, a 2010 graduate of Mishawaka High School, and Thomas Johnson, who graduated in 2007 from Elkhart Memorial High School.
