GOSHEN — Dzung Nguyen didn’t win an Oscar Sunday night, but watching them in-person was enough of a thrill.

“It was absolutely wonderful, the experience of a lifetime,” Nguyen said today, Feb. 25, by phone from California.

Nguyen owns and runs Goshen Buick GMC Hyundai, and his dealership’s efforts landed him and his wife, Francoise, on the red carpet.

“It’s basically an event sponsored by Hyundai. We were ranked number-one in the country for customer satisfaction” in their size category, and “we had the chance to pick from going to Hawaii for a week, go to the Super Bowl, Grammys or Oscars. My wife chose the Oscars,” he said.

They were inside the theater, which seats about 3,300 people, a setting he described as intimate — they saw plenty of Hollywood stars.

After the Oscars, they got to attend the Governor’s Ball, which is where award winners get their names engraved on their Oscars. “All the stars are there next to you. It was absolutely phenomenal,” Nguyen said.

There’s a photo of the two of them behind Catherine Zeta-Jones, but “my wife has one with John Travolta, with his arm around her. It just made her night,” Nguyen said.

“Hyundai treated us so well,” he said.

They played golf with Hyundai’s vice president of sales and attended the awards show with the president of Hyundai. “It was a very first-class event,” he said.

While in Los Angeles they got to visit friends and relatives, and they’re flying back today, Nguyen said.
