CONCORD TOWNSHIP — C.R. 9 (Prairie Street) was closed between Coolidge Avenue and Bontrager Avenue for more than an hour Monday afternoon, Feb. 25, as three fire departments battled a blaze in the living room of a home at 57954 C.R. 9.

The Concord, Baugo and Harrison township fire departments responded to the call, which came in around 4:20 p.m., said Concord Township Fire Department Public Information Officer Jerry Adkins.

A driver passing by the home saw smoke and called 911.

Adkins credited the passing motorist with good timing.

“We’re just a mile and a half down the road so we had a pretty good response time,” he said.

Adkins said the fire was contained to the living room and the cause is still under investigation.

Firefighters removed the charred remains of an armchair and sleeper sofa from the living room.

A neighbor said the homeowner was at work when the fire started.
