Goshen police investigate area of Millrace Canal

Goshen fire and police departments are conducting an investigation at the north end of the Goshen Mill Race near the Farmers Market. Emergency personnel congregated around an area in which what appeared to be footsteps on ice that had formed in the canal. The apparent footsteps led to a broken area of the ice.
A 911 call by a passer-by prompted the police and fire response, according to a dispatcher with the Elkhart County 911 Center. The caller did not see anyone fall through the ice.
The Goshen Technical Rescue Unit and an ambulance were among the units that responded to the scene.
By around 7:45 p.m., police and fire personnel had left the area.
