ELKHART — Though there may not be much snow accumulation for the rest of the day, snow is expected to continue falling for the next few hours.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Elkhart County Friday morning, Feb. 22, until noon.

A band of moderate snow has now shifted to the northeast, according to the National Weather Service, but sleet and freezing rain are expected to continue throughout the morning.

Little, if any, additional snow or ice accumulations are expected. However, roads in some areas of the county may still be slick and snow covered throughout the morning. Travel in Elkhart County was slow-going this morning for many motorists. There were 15 to 20 accidents reported in the city of Elkhart and in Elkhart County. None were serious, according to dispatchers.

According to a press release from the Bremen and Toll Road Districts from the Indiana State Police, state troopers worked on several crashes and slide-offs in the counties of St. Joseph, Elkhart, Marshall and Kosciusko. They expect to continue working this morning while the roads remain slick, according to the press release.

The ISP also urges drivers to use caution while driving throughout the rest of the day, and to allow extra time for travel.
