GOSHEN — A move by the Electric Brew from Main Street to the building to be vacated by Better World Books on East Washington Street this summer would be a great advantage for the business, according to the building’s owner Dave Pottinger.

Pottinger, who also owns the building housing Ignition Garage, said when he heard Better World Books would be moving out of their current location, the coffee shop seemed like the perfect fit.

“I always try to think what will go in next,” he explained, adding that he doesn’t advertise his buildings, opting instead to talk with local business owners to gauge interest.

Though no contracts have been officially signed, Pottinger is confident that a deal can be worked out with Electric Brew owner Myron Bontrager to benefit both the business and the community.

He noted the increased area the new location would provide, observing that the square space would provide more room to maneuver.

Pottinger echoed Bontrager’s sentiment that the coffee shop is also in need of conference rooms, another amenity the current Better World Books location would provide.

He stated that he’s had to stop holding meetings at the Brew simply because “it’s too public.” Pottinger explained that the cramped space at the Brew sometimes hinders the ability to hold conversations. A move to a larger, less intrusive space, he said, “would create a more pleasant environment for people to do what they do at the Brew, which is have a cup of coffee and talk.”

“The aesthetics in the bookstore are just beautiful,” Pottinger added.

Pottinger also touched on the potential of a partnership between the Electric Brew and Ignition Garage. He believes the two businesses would benefit greatly from being connected to one another just through a doorway.
