ELKHART — The fourth annual Trudge for Suds will get a little nostalgic Saturday night when it celebrates 1985.

Eight bars and restaurants, many of which are in the downtown business district, are participating.

The promotion includes drink specials and a 1985-themed costume contest.

A downtown shuttle and discounts for a safe ride home are available, according to information provided by Pillars of Elkhart.

“Trudging” will begin at 8 p.m. when participants head to the Lerner Theatre, where they can pick up their official Trudge Passport and have their picture taken for the ’80s-themed costume contest.

Local businesses participating include Iechyd Da Brewing Company, Stirred, McCarthy’s on the Riverwalk, Crimaldi’s, 523 Tap & Grill, Harrison Landing, Bowly’s Crystal Bar and Whiskey Dick’s Five Star Dive Bar.

Most locations will have drink specials, music or live entertainment and free cover for “Trudgers.”

Rides home for anyone who is drinking will be provided at discounted rates through Ace Cab. A free downtown shuttle to participating locations will be provided via a limousine paid for by Pillars.

Organizers are upbeat about how the event has grown the past three years.

Last year, an estimated 600 to 800 participated. This year they’d like to see that number hit 1,000, said Jason Fink, a representative of Pillars.

Pillars of Elkhart is an event-focused group facilitating the renewal of Elkhart’s spirit by making the downtown a vibrant destination.
