GOSHEN — When Cequent Performance Products’ first round of layoff hits on Friday, Feb. 22, union membership may meet to vote on the closure package offered by the company.

That’s according to WNDU, which reported on its website that the closure package would involve the union dropping legal proceedings which have union leaders and company officials in an arbitration process after the union filed a federal lawsuit last year.

Michigan-based TriMas, parent company of Cequent, announced last year it will close its Goshen plant and move all production from there to a sister facility in Reynosa, Mexico.

The process will come in waves of layoffs, with the first wave set for this week and the final shut-down to happen by the end of the year, according to court documents.
