Fire destroys Elkhart building Monday morning
ELKHART — A fire destroyed a building early Monday, Feb. 18.
The Elkhart Fire Department responded to 422 Marion St. at 12:29 a.m. where they found flames coming out of windows on the first and second floors of a vacant building.
The fire got into the walls and went up to the attic, causing damage to the roof, according to a report from Chief Investigator Rob Smith.
A building nextdoor, on 420 W. Marion, was also damaged from exposure to the fire.
The fire was under control around 2:25 a.m., with the help of four engines, a truck and three other vehicles. No one was injured.
The fire department is still investigating the cause of the fire, which originated in the first floor.
