GOSHEN — Two men escaped from the Elkhart County Work Release Center by forcing an exit door open and leaving on foot.

A report was taken by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department around 12:49 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18., after Travis Smith, 19, and Matthew Powell, 23, left the center, which is located at 201 N. Cottage Ave., Goshen.

Capt. Jim Bradberry, public information officer, said it is not uncommon for people on work release to walk out from the center at times or to not return to the facility from work. Both of these cases are considered an escape when reported.
