Speed main factor in Middlebury crash that sent 4 teens to hospital

A crash reconstructionist determined by the evidence the scene that the car was traveling a minimum of 63.9 MPH.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department and Middlebury Police Department responded to C.R. 43, just south of S.R. 120 around 8:45 a.m.
According to the accident report by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Daniel Franklin, 17, of Middlebury was driving south on C.R. 43. Others in the car were:
• Taylor Prince, 14, of Middlebury
• Paris Franklin, 14, of Middlebury
• Logan Handshoe, 16, of Elkhart
The accident happened when, due to unsafe speed and overcorrecting, the Franklin lost control of the car and left the roadway, according to police. The car spun, hitting a trash can and a mailbox before coming to a stop when its trunk hit a tree.
The four teenagers were taken to the hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.
