GOSHEN — The Elkhart County Park and Recreation Board has more than a third of the money it needs to rebuild an observation tower at Ox Bow County Park.

The park board has set aside $66,343 collected from fundraisers, donations, park funds and retribution for the tower, according to county parks director Larry Neff. Vandals set fire to the wooden tower in July 2010.

The project’s cost is estimated at $150,000, Neff said. The park board hopes to have enough funding to start construction later this year or early 2014.
