EDWARDSBURG, Mich. — Troy Noble described his team's rebounding as “nonexistent.”

The Central boys basketball coach meant that figuratively, not literally, but in the third quarter, the idea fit either way.

The Edwardsburg Eddies outrebounded the Blue Blazers 9-0 during that pull-away quarter and 35-14 for the game on the way to beating Central for the first time in the schools' three-ever interstate meetings, 66-53 on Tuesday, Feb. 12 in the Eddie gym.

It didn't matter, either, that Central Michigan recruit Josh Kozinski matched a season low with 12 points — half his average — while being hawked by Blazer junior Tre Taylor, because fellow senior Jason Schimpa — averaging 5.3 — responded with a career-high 18, and senior center Matt Riesinger chipped in another 12.

“With the kind of pressure Elkhart put on us the whole game, and the kind they kept on Josh, we certainly had to have other people step up,” Edwardsburg coach Dan Gunn said. “That's something we haven't had (in other years), but this group has had a better resume' as far as that goes. Their averages aren't high, but from one game to the next, it always seems like somebody steps up and fills the void.”

The Eddies improved to 13-3, while Central dropped to 5-13.

Terell Street led the Blazers with 16 points, 14 after the intermission, to go with three steals.
