ELKHART — Three firefighters received disciplinary notice Tuesday morning, Feb. 12, at the Elkhart Board of Public Safety meeting.

In a letter presented to the board, Fire Chief Mike Compton stated Matthew Rody, Kent Stouder and Benjamin Schenk would received notice for their violation of conduct.

Rody’s notice stemmed from a conviction, Compton said. Rody was arrested Oct. 13, 2012 for public intoxication and operating while intoxicated. He was booked at the Elkhart County Jail and was released on a $1,500 bond. Rody pleaded guilty to the charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor. He was sentenced to reporting probation and to 50 hours of community service through the Indiana River Rescue School, according to court documents. His driver’s license was also suspended for 90 days.

Rody will be given a 10-day suspension as discipline for his conduct.

Stouder will receive a written notice for discourteous behavior and use of derogatory language, and Schenk will receive a one-day suspension for being late to work.

During the board meeting, Police Chief Dale Pflibsen presented a letter of a disciplinary notice for Cpl. James Geleske for neglect of duty for failure to take appropriate action. Geleske will receive a one-day suspension.
