ELKHART — Fire crews responded to Carpenter Co. at 195 County Road 15 in Elkhart shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday, closing the road for about an hour.

Jacob Fife, a division manager at Carpenter, said the fire was small and contained to an area of ductwork on one of the manufacturing lines.

“It was something we couldn’t get to with a fire extinguisher so we called (the fire department) in,” Fife said.

Fife said the fire was contained to a small area.

Crews began to clear the scene around 6 p.m.
