GOSHEN — Dale Stoltzfus is returning to Indiana and his alma mater as head coach of the Goshen College women’s soccer program.

Stoltzfus, who built Elkhart Central into a perennial boys high school power in the 1990s before compiling comparable winning percentages plus two state titles in his native Pennsylvania, was named Thursday, Feb. 7, by GC athletic director Tim Demant.

In 36 high school seasons overall, he is 477-194-52 between boys and girls, with a 2005 boys state crown at Warrick and a 2008 girls state crown at Lancaster Mennonite.

He led the Central boys to the State Finals in 1995 and also coached the Blazer girls at one time.

Stoltzfus, a 1984 GC graduate, left Indiana for Pennsylvania in 1999.

“With my wife and I both becoming empty-nesters, returning to Goshen College, where my wife and I graduated from, sounds very appealing,” Stoltzfus said. “I cherish the opportunity to return to Goshen to work with the women’s soccer program and hopefully develop the student-athletes into better soccer players and members of the Goshen College community.”

“We are extremely excited to have someone of Dale’s experience and winning track record lead our women’s soccer program,” Demant said.

Stoltzfus will transition to GC this spring, allowing him time to work with the current roster as well as incoming recruits before the summer break. The Maple Leafs begin their season in August.

Stoltzfus replaces Fabio dos Santos, who went 5-13 before resigning in November after one season at GC.

The Leafs’ lone winning record in 21 years of women’s soccer came in 1997.
