NOTRE DAME — Notre Dame has placed a 6-foot-3, 310-pound cherry on top of its National Signing Day cake.

Eddie Vanderdoes, a 5-star defensive tackle from Placer, Calif., bypassed UCLA, USC and Alabama to don the blue and gold during his official announcement Wednesday, Feb. 5.

According to Rivals.com, the signing will put the Irish behind Alabama and Florida as the third-rated recruiting class for 2013.

Vanderdoes clocks in as Notre Dame’s 24th and final recruit in this cycle and the fourth 5-star player in the 2013 class alongside running back Greg Bryant, linebacker Jaylon Smith and safety Max Redfield.

Vanderdoes was set to make his announcement from a live video feed on maxpreps.com, but the feed stopped working minutes before he took the stage. Minutes later, MaxPreps Tweeted that Vanderdoes picked Notre Dame.
