The S.R. 19-C.R. 52 intersection in Nappanee is to be upgraded and Indiana Department of Transportation officials invite the public to sound off.

According to an INDOT legal notice, designated left-hand turn lanes are to be added to all four approaches to the crossing, along with new curbing and gutter. A bike path there will be moved slightly to the east.

The project has an estimated price tag of $1.2 million, coming from state and federal resources, and it’s tentatively set to be let in the summer of 2014 and completed in 2015, according to INDOT.

The upgrade will require 2.33 acres of new right-of-way, but no homes or businesses need to be replaced. S.R. 19 traffic should remain open through the construction period, while the east leg of C.R. 52 will stay open during the school year. The west leg of C.R. 52 will stay open during planned festivals in Nappanee in August and September.

Preliminary design plans are available at the Nappanee Public Library, 157 N. Main St., Nappanee and at INDOT.
