17 from Concord schools to go on to regional science fair

Seventeen students were selected Saturday at the Concord Science Fair to go on to the regional contest at the University of Notre Dame.

Here are the top-placing students from that competition.

First- and second-grade division: First, Matthew Daub, Ox Bow Elementary; second, Benjamin Creek, West Side Elementary; third, Ellie Shoemaker, Ox Bow Elementary.

Third- through fifth-grade division: First, Meaghan Godzisz, Concord Intermediate School; second, Caleb Shenk, Concord Intermediate School; third, Emma Gingerich, South Side Elementary.

Also moving on to the regional contest are Lorinda Ulick, East Side Elementary; Genevieve Carreno, Concord Intermediate School; Austin Shenk, West Side Elementary; Kevin Araujo, East Side Elementary; Sam Carnall, Ox Bow Elementary; Alyssa McClendon, East Side Elementary; and Logan Sunday, Concord Intermediate School.

Sixth- through eighth-grade division: First and Best of Show, Maya Klopfenstein, Concord Junior High; second, Emily Kennedy, Concord Junior High; third, Ainslee Zou, Concord Junior High.

Also going to the regional contest is Will Boyer, Concord Junior High.

The top projects from individual Concord schools’ competitions were at the districtwide contest Saturday, according to Concord High School teacher Amy West, who coordinates the Concord district science fair. The Northern Indiana Regional Science and Engineering Fair will be at the University of Notre Dame on March 2.
