Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann helped to present the awards at a ceremony Wednesday at the Statehouse in Indianapolis.
“Brand new ventures or seasoned businesses, these companies have made great strides for Indiana’s workforce and business landscape,” Ellspermann said in a release. “With fresh ideas and new energy as a trademark, the Hoosier state will continue to encourage many more entrepreneurs like these to build our future.”
The Economic Development through Growth and Entrepreneurship (EDGE) Awards are sponsored by the Indiana Economic Development Corp.’s Small Business Development Centers.
Businesses throughout the state were nominated by their respective regional small business advisers for the award.
Nominated businesses were separated into “established” and “emerging” sections. Honey’s, which opened May 22, 2012, won an award in the emerging category.
Kelly Huffman, owner of Honey’s, was pleasantly surprised to be nominated for the award.
“It really validates you when your small business adviser recognizes you,” she said. “Out of all the clients he has to work with, he chose us.”
