DUNLAP — For 24 minutes, the battle between Memorial and Warsaw raged point for point.

Unfortunately for Memorial, a nearly even battle can be easily tipped, which happened when the Tigers outscored the Chargers 17-7 in the third quarter.

Memorial (13-8) battled back in the fourth quarter but couldn’t overcome the deficit, falling to Warsaw (20-1) for the first time in post-season play since 2001, 49-37.

A combination of sloppy second-half shooting by the Chargers combined with an 15-point second half from Warsaw guard Jennifer Walker-Crawford led to the lopsided third quarter.

Memorial shot 36.8 percent in the second half after shooting 46.7 in the first two quarters.

“That’s the story of our year,” Memorial coach Steve Scott said. “We haven’t shot the ball all year. Teams have figured it out by now: Take away the paint, take away the drive and make them shoot. I thought we were sitting pretty at half and it just didn’t come out that way.”

Walker led the Tigers with 18 points, while Khadijah Moore led the Blazers with 15.

Warsaw will face Concord in the second round of the Concord Class 4A sectional on Friday, Feb. 8.
