South Bend man seriously injured in snowmobile accident
Benjamin Higgins, 24, was riding through a field with his friend Nick Ponster, 25, both of South Bend, when the front ski on Higgins’ snowmobile caught a rut and caused Higgins to be ejected from the vehicle. Ponster noticed the accident and was able to dial 911.
Emergency responders transported Higgins to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center where he was treated for a severed artery and broken leg. He is currently listed as being in stable condition.
Investigators reported that the men had permission to ride in the field and Higgins’ injuries were minimized thanks to his protective helmet.
