ELKHART — While Punxsutawney Phil on Saturday predicted an early end to winter, snow and cold were still hitting Elkhart County in full force.

Several inches of overnight snowfall made Elkhart County roads slippery Saturday morning.

A dispatcher with Elkhart County 911 said at 10:45 a.m. that emergency crews had responded to six traffic accidents since 7 a.m. and were still responding to two additional accidents.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for northern Indiana early Saturday morning predicting additional snowfall.

Another 1 to 2 inches of snow could fall Saturday, with snow tapering off and stopping on Sunday.

Another low-pressure system will sweep across the southern Great Lakes Monday, bringing an additional 1 to 3 inches of accumulation.

High temperatures will hover in the low- to mid-20s through Monday.
