Updated: Four Goshen swimmers hurt in Middlebury traffic accident
MIDDLEBURY — Four Goshen High School boys swim team members were injured in a traffic accident near Northridge High School Saturday morning.
According to a report from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Alex Metcalfe, 17, of Goshen, was driving east on U.S. 20 and turned left onto C.R. 35 into the path of a car driven by Karen Myers, 70, of Elkhart.
Metcalfe suffered cuts on his face, police said. Three passengers in Metcalfe’s station wagon, Charles Ostergren, 15, of Goshen; Jackson Miller, 15, of Goshen; and Bret Hoke, 17, of Goshen, were also injured.
Ostergren suffered hip and back injuries, Miller had a cut on his shoulder and Hoke suffered a concussion and broken foot.
The group was en route to the Northridge Sectional girls swimming and diving meet, Goshen officials said.
Metcalfe received a ticket for failing to yield the right-of-way.
