ELKHART — Robert O. Decker, 71, of Elkhart, passed away at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Woodland Manor.

He was born on June 13, 1941, in Elkhart to Carlyle and Mary Rachel (Harper) Decker.

Robert is survived by his cousin, Julie Nixon of California, and caretakers Pat and John VanDyke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlyle and Mary Decker.

A memorial service will be at a later date.

Robert graduated from Elkhart High School in 1959 and later graduated from Bethel College with a bachelor’s degree in music. He worked for Viking Company; he was also active in the Elkhart Civic Theatre. He was a director for The Lerner Theatre, formerly known as the Elco, and he won several awards for directing plays.

Memorial donations may be given to First Presbyterian Church in Elkhart, specifically for the music program.

Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with arrangements.
