The Emmy Award-winning entertainer will breathe new life into her beloved television character, Thelma Harper, known as “Mama” to fans, for “Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two-Woman Show” on April 6 at the Lerner Theatre.
“My new show will not be a retrospective,” Lawrence said in a news release. “We are designing a show that is a mixture of stand-up comedy, music and my observations about real life.”
Lawrence recently teamed up with fellow “Carol Burnett Show” star Tim Conway for “Yes, Dear” on CBS. She has also appeared in several on-stage productions including “Send Me No Flowers,” “Hello Dolly” and “Annie Get Your Gun.” She published an autobiography, “Vicki! The True Life Adventures of Miss Fireball,” in 1995. Lawrence also travels from coast to coast to speak to charity organizations about her life and career as an entertainer, health issues and women’s rights.
“Vicki Lawrence is the biggest headlining comedy act that we’ve had,” Lerner Theatre administrator Ranee Robinson said. “We enjoy having a mix of arts and entertainment at Lerner, not just being a concert venue, so to be able to add another comedy act is great.”
Lawrence describes her upcoming comedy revue as “modern and cutting edge.”
“Where Mama is concerned, expect the unexpected,” she said. “There’s really nothing she can’t do.”
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. Reserved seating ticket prices start at $29.50. Tickets can be purchased by calling (800) 294-8223 or visiting the theater’s box office at 410 S. Main St. in downtown Elkhart. Tickets are also available online at www.thelerner.com.
