April 11, 1937 - Jan. 28, 2013

VANDALIA, Mich. — Thomas T. Tonge, 75, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born April 11, 1937, he was the son of the late Robert and Adelaide (Heald) Tonge.

Left to cherish Tom’s memory are his significant other of 12 years, Sheri Hickman; three children, Lynda (Donald) Pedersen of Pocono Pines, Pa., Kim Al-Robaee of Granger and Thomas (Rebecca) Tonge of Atlanta; brother Robert (Chrissy) Tonge of Durango, Colo.; two other brothers; a cousin, Judy (Rudy) Shunta of Muskegon, Mich.; and eight grandchildren.

Tom loved his family more than anything. He would do anything he could to bring a smile to their faces. He and Sheri enjoyed going to Broadway shows and traveling to new places. Tom loved the outdoors, especially boating and skiing, which he was exceptional at. He also very much enjoyed genealogy. He had thick books collected from many years of searching. He was a wonderful man, loved by all and will be greatly missed by many.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at McGann Hay, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, South Bend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
