ELKHART — One of the two men accused of setting Goshen park pavilions on fire pleaded guilty this morning.

Nicholas Lynch, 20, of 204 Mt. Vernon Drive, Goshen, pleaded guilty to four counts of arson Monday, Jan. 28, in Superior Court 2.

Of the four counts, two are Class B felonies and two are Class D felonies. Lynch agreed to a sentence of 14 years with an executed cap. Judge Stephen Bowers accepted the plea, not before clarifying that he could sentence Lynch to more than the 14 years, but that he would have to suspend the extra years.

Lynch was arrested July 6, 2012, following an investigation by the Goshen Police Department.

The arsons, which police said cause more than $60,000 in damage include:

• Rogers Park Pavilion, March 21;

• Oakridge Park Pavilion, July 2;

• Vehicle arson at 2207 Homeacres, March 30;

• Vehicle arson at 2207 Homeacres, May 13

Lynch’s sentencing hearing has been scheduled for 8:30 a.m. March 4.

His codefendant, 19-year-old Jose Rangel, of 631 B N. Main St., Goshen, was also arrested July 6, 2012. He is being charged with one count of arson, a Class B felony, in Superior Court 2. Rangel’s next hearing is scheduled for March 11.
