Several local students and one local band were a part of the Indiana Music Educators Association (IMEA) state conference this weekend in Fort Wayne.

Eleven local students were chosen to be a part of the IMEA’s honor band. Local music teachers nominated students, while the IMEA had the final selection, according to the IMEA website.

Ian Knight of Concord High School played the alto sax with the band. From Elkhart Central, Samantha Abbott played flute, Joanna Dixon played clarinet, Carol Weirich played horn and Carl Jacobson played percussion. From NorthWood High School, Samantha Zent played clarinet and Dylon Price played trombone. From Penn, Austin Hollett played clarinet, Kristin Wuthrich played horn, Adam Battalio played trombone and A.J. Tachman played tuba with the band.

Concord High School’s 165-member pep band were also featured performers at the IMEA convention Friday.

Bryan Golden, a Concord director, and the band also presented a clinic at the conference titled “Pep Band, It’s Important and Fun.”

Band, orchestra, choral and other music educators from across the state attended the conference, held last Thursday through Saturday at the Grand Wayne Convention Center in Fort Wayne. Ensemble performances were held in the historic Embassy Theatre.
