Faith Mission ready for frigid temperatures
Perez noted that the Mission already started its winter shelter program near the end of November. During the winter season, Faith Mission offers hospital mattresses on the floor and provides blankets, sheets and pillows so it does not have to turn away anyone that needs a place to stay during the cold months.
The shelter has room for about 30 to 35 single people, but will accommodate anyone who wants to stay at the Mission.
“If we had 40 people show up, we’d make it work,” Perez said.
When temperatures are below freezing, Perez said the Mission begins what it calls “winter amnesty.” During winter amnesty periods, the standard 6 p.m. check-in time is not observed. People may come whenever they want because “it’s too cold to be outside.”
“Don’t be afraid to come to the Mission,” Perez advised. “This is what we’re supported for.”
