DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac Police Department was involved in a short vehicle pursuit that ended with a 20-year-old man being taken into custody after running into a house.

At about 8:40 p.m. Saturday, an officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding on East Prairie Ronde Street near Mcmber Street, according to a news release from the Dowagiac Police. The driver fled, going east on East Prairie Ronde, and tried to make a right turn onto McCleary Street.

The vehicle slid off the road into a yard and hit the front of a house in the 700 block of East Prairie Ronde. The driver then ran through several yards and was eventually apprehended by an officer a short time later.

No one was home at the time of the crash. The house’s foundation and front porch sustained minor damage. The driver was taken to Borgess/Lee Memorial Hospital to be examined and then to the Cass County Jail. The suspect, a 20-year-old Dowagiac resident, was lodged on charges of Fleeing and Eluding, Resisting and Obstructing Police, Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, and Driving with No Driver License. The driver’s name is withheld pending his arraignment in Cass County 4th District Court. All charges are pending authorization from the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.
