Teenagers charged with felony murder appear in court, move trial dates

Three teenagers charged with felony murder in connection with an attempted burglary in October of 2012 appeared in Elkhart Circuit Court Thursday.

Blake Layman, 16, of 1611 Frances Ave., appeared with his attorney, Mark Doty, for a status conference. Doty presented paperwork and requested more time to do additional investigation on the case.

Levi Sparks, 17, of 927 McPherson St., Elkhart, and Anthony Sharp, Jr., 18, of 1618 William Henry Drive, Goshen, also appeared in court. Judge Terry Shewmaker granted motions to continue and set trial dates of April 22. The trial status conference dates were set for April 11.

Jose Quiroz, 17, of 1922 Frances Ave. pleaded guilty to felony murder and was sentenced in December to 45 years in prison.
