Warsaw man airlifted after leaping from vehicle Friday morning

NAPPANEE — A Warsaw man was airlifted after jumping out of a moving vehicle just south of Nappanee Friday morning.

According to a release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, deputies and emergency personnel from Nappanee responded to a call on C.R. 800 W. at 5:41 a.m. Friday.

They immediately found Jerry Belcher, 21, of Warsaw, who was unconscious and suffering from extensive head injuries.

Belcher’s father, Johnny L. Belcher, 41, of Warsaw, told police that Jerry Belcher had been a passenger in his pickup truck when they got into a verbal argument on their way to work. Johnny Becher told police that Jerry Belcher then opened the passenger side door and leaped from the vehicle.

Johnny Belcher said he went back and found his son in the ditch. According to the release, there was a another passenger that confirmed Johnny Belcher’s story.

Jerry Belcher was taken by MedFlight to South Bend Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

The incident remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
