GOSHEN — Madison and Eighth streets in Goshen was closed for several hours Thursday afternoon as firefighters battled a structure fire in the area.

The fire broke out at Gleason Industrial Products on Madison Street around noon.

Bill Malone, the company’s owner, said he thinks the fire started in insulation near an oven in the business. All 23 employees left the building; none were injured, he said.

Gleason makes vehicle exhaust components.

Firefighters could be seen on the roof of the building. They tore parts of the roof and the wall adjacent to the train tracks to check for hot spots.

Goshen Fire Chief Dan Sink said the fire department was called at 12:08 p.m. to the fire. He said there were three areas where the fire had spread, and that they had to work their way around the three separate areas of the building. He said they called 12 off-duty firefighters to help put the fire out.

Sink said they have not determined the cause nor the origin of the fire.
