GOSHEN — Work has begun on the roof of the Rogers Park pavilion that was damaged in a fire last March.

Zehr Construction Inc. has been working at the site since November, tearing down the roof and rebuilding several columns that had disintegrated. The roof-rebuilding phase, however, began Tuesday after trusses were delivered, according to Mary Cripe, civil city engineer.

The major repairs include restructuring of the roof, which was charred in the fire, actually getting the roofing on and restructuring some of the pavilion’s columns.

Park superintendent Sheri Howland said Zehr Construction is a bit ahead of schedule due to some milder weather and she hopes the construction will be completed by April.

The pavilion was damaged when it caught fire March 21, 2012. Nicholas A. Lynch, 20, of Goshen, was arrested in July on preliminary charges of arson related to the Rogers Park fire and several other fires.
